Our vision is to see every person in every surrounding neighborhood gathered together around the good news of Jesus Christ and made new in him.

Resurrection Presbyterian - Our Story

Our Story

Resurrection began with the prayer and desire of Downtown Presbyterian Church to be a church-planting church. This first came to fruition with Grace and Peace Presbyterian in 2016 when a group was sent out to begin a new worshipping community in the Poe Mill Neighborhood. Five years later, Resurrection was gathered and sent out of Downtown Pres to minister on the eastern-edge of downtown in the greater 29607 area. Resurrection began interest meetings in the summer of 2020, core group gatherings in the winter of 2021, and began worshipping on April 4th, 2021.

Whether you have been a committed follower of Jesus Christ for many years, are new to the faith, or just curious to learn more, we welcome you. We’re here for the convinced and unconvinced.

Our Values

  • CENTERED

CENTERED on the good news of Jesus Christ.

This life-changing news is at the heart of our worship, preaching, teaching, counseling, outreach, and planning. We hope people leave our gatherings being captivated by the beauty, love, and grace of Jesus Christ. (Luke 24:27; John 11:25)

  • ROOTED

Our roots are in the Bible. We believe that the Bible is the True Story of a God of love, who has existed from all eternity in loving relationship—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is the Story of this God creating the world and everything in it—in love. It is the Story of humanity rebelling against this God of love and plunging both the world and ourselves into sin and brokenness. But it’s most of all a rescue Story. It’s the Story of a God who didn’t abandon his people or his world, but instead, came in the person of Jesus to rescue and redeem his broken people and his broken world. At the heart of this rescue Story is the person and work of Jesus. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

  • CONNECTED

We stand on the shoulders of faithful men and women who have gone before us in studying the Scriptures and living out their faith across times, cultures, and challenges. We embrace the historic Christian faith as expressed in the ancient creeds of the universal church (the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds). As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America, we trace our roots through the Reformed Protestant tradition. Our doctrinal beliefs are summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith. Our membership in the PCA provides us with regional accountability and support as well as partnership in mission both at home and abroad.

  • ACCESSIBLE

We aim to be understandable regardless of your beliefs or background – whether you’re new to the faith or have questions and doubts about Christianity. We define our terms, use a common vocabulary, and try not to make assumptions about beliefs. (Acts 8:30-31)

  • TOGETHER

Christ has welcomed us into relationship with himself, we now seek to welcome one another into genuine friendship and shared life. Life is messy, tragic, fun, mundane – and best lived when lived together. (Romans 15:7, Acts 2:42-44, Romans 12:4-10, Galatians 6:2)

  • VIBRANT

Our rescue in Jesus Christ is good news – the best news! We want our gatherings to tell the story of this good news and reflect the joy that flows out of it. (Psalm 33:1-3, Psalm 150)

  • INTENTIONAL

Our world is fractured and divided in about every way possible. Only the good news of Jesus Christ can transcend these divisions. As a community gathered around this good news, we want to be intentional about building relationships across these boundaries, whether its income level, political affiliation, geography, race, or ethnicity. (Genesis 1:27, Matthew 22:37-40)

  • EMBRACING DISRUPTION

God often calls, gathers, and sends out. This sending out can be disruptive in the best way possible! We want to embrace good kingdom disruption by taking risks, starting new ministries, and planting more churches. (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 20:36-38)
